Description
This guide outlines the causes of and troubleshooting measures for the HELIOS alert "Low Voltage - Below normal operating voltage".
General problem
The "SPF Low Voltage Alert" error will trigger an alert that will be flagged under the Health tab in HELIOS. This alert will appear in the following sections highlighted in yellow boxes.
Health > Alerts
Devices > Processing
Background
HELIOS and NETGEAR network switches are equipped with advanced internal sensors that can detect power voltage issues in individual SFP modules. When this alert appears, it means one of those sensors has detected a voltage problem.
Troubleshooting
To resolve this alert, start by locating the fault. Use the monitoring tools in the Devices and Health tabs to determine the specific SFP that is causing the alert. In the example photos shown above, see that SFP port #13 on the network switch is the port that reporting the low voltage alert. Make sure to properly locate where the alert is coming from on your device.
- Remove and reinsert SFP - Unplug and reconnect the SFP. Double check the physical condition of the SFP and the port for any damage or obstructions.
- Perform a Power Cycle - Reboot the device to see if the issue resolves and normal operation resumes.
- Update the system - After performing the above steps, make sure to update or reinstall the latest software version for both HELIOS and network switches to ensure compatibility.
NOTE: If the above steps do not solve the alert, the below steps should be taken with the assistance of Megapixel Support, as hardware replacements may be necessary.
- Replace the SFP - If the alert persists, the SFP may have a hardware fault. Replace it with a spare and see if resolves.
- Check the SFP port components - If replacing the SFP does not resolve the issue, check whether the problem is related to the component device it connects to. These components may require further inspection or replacement.
