HELIOS - ST 2110 Quick Start (with NMOS)

Description

This guide will go through the brief steps to get a ST 2110 source up and running on HELIOS.  For more information, please read into the link provided in the "Where to start" section.

Where to start

Here are a couple links that are recommended reads before starting down the ST 2110 road.

HELIOS Physical Setup

There are two options for ST 2110, the 10G ST 2110 SFP slots and the 100G VFMC input card.   The 100G will require a new card installed in place of the DP/HDMI slots.  The (4x) 10G options is ready to go on every HELIOS as it is done through the same SFP slots as the SDI SFPs.  The 10G option utilizes the same SFP+ modules that work with the network switches that connect the tiles to HELIOS.

HELIOS UI Setup

Step 1 - Operating Mode

For either option, you will need to enable the ST 2110 Operating Mode (screenshot below).  HELIOS will reload and change the SDI SFP ports into Fiber ports for ST 2110.  To do this, follow the below steps:
  1. Go to Settings
  2. Go to Processor Settings
  3. Select the appropriate ST 2110 "Operating mode"

Step 2 - SDP Upload/Retrieval

HELIOS supports NMOS and direct uploads of SDP records.  The user will need to set the input to the ST 2110 input being used and link up the SDP file for the ST 2110 stream to the HELIOS.  The control LAN interface on HELIOS needs to be on the same network where the SDP retrieval can be found (NMOS control, URL typed in, etc.).  If they are not, you will want to upload the SDP directly into HELIOS (as shown below).
To do this, following the below steps:
  1. Go to Input
  2. Select intended input
  3. Upload/link to the SDP

NMOS Setup (optional)

For NMOS usage, you will need a recent build and need to navigate over to the Settings - NMOS menu. Here you will want to make sure the Enable toggle is on and that it has found a registry.

Useful Troubleshooting Tips

  • Confirm there are connectivity lights on HELIOS and source
  • HELIOS media LAN requires DHCP to get its local address after physical link is made
  • For the SDP record, below is an example from the User Guide of what HELIOS is looking for.  For more complex systems, this can be amended to include redundant stream data also.
