Description
This article takes a quick look at the HELIOS Baselining functionality (released in v24.11.0 - Nov. 2024).
Baselines and Deviations
There are three key terms to understand in HELIOS that relate to Baseline:
Baseline - A snapshot of the system that is considered to be the desired state. This Baseline is then monitored for any changes that occur relating to the Tile and Switches.
Offline device - This occurs when a device is no longer detected by the system that was a part of the Baseline.
Deviation - When changes occur from the Baseline, a Deviation is triggered in the system. This occurs when device Topology is correct but the position of the devices is not the same as the baseline. For example, tiles being mapped in different locations than they were at the time the Baseline was taken.
There are a few things that are tracked by the Baseline (tile position, tile type, switch type, etc.) and each of those can cause a Deviation to occur. Suggest reading section 5.4.7 in the User Guide for more information.
Setting the Baseline
To set a Baseline, first get the system completely connected and working in the desired state (this is important). Use either of the two Baseline menus and press the "Set" option. If desired, the user can also "Clear" the current Baseline or "Set" a new one. Below is an example of the basic set up process.
Deviation Alerts
Any Deviations that are triggered will result in an Alert in the Health menu for the user's information. See below video for an example of how this appears in the UI.
As an added benefit, Megapixel Cloud users will then also receive an email alert that a Deviation has occurred.
