Description
This article will explain the basic user Output settings in the HELIOS. The Output menu is where the user can make changes to the system’s color output. In many applications, having accurate and true color is a key part of a successful show. This means that ensuring this menu is correct is a very important part of the process.
Tile Gamut and the CIE chart
By default, HELIOS will automatically use the metadata from the Input to select the Tile gamut. This means it’s important to make sure that the metadata is being received the same as it was sent. There are lots of devices that do not respect the metadata or completely ignore it which means the user may need to override this. In event that an override is needed, this can be done as simply as clicking on the gamut dropdown and selecting the desired option (example below).
The achievable gamut of the tiles (shown as "Actual") is created based upon each tile's calibration data. Each tile has an individual achievable color gamut that is limited by the LED emitters sourced for that tile. This means that there can be a wide range of color gamuts across different tiles. The Report button at the bottom left of the screen will give the user insight into the LED tile's individual performance.
Output Bit Depth
Depending on the needs of the show, it might be necessary to change HELIOS from 12 bit (the default) to 10 bit which will increase available bandwidth. The Bit depth menu will allow the user to do this.
